A Taste of Merlindia | Interview with The Fojol Brothers

A Taste of Merlindia

The gourmet food truck has emerged as a new dining category in many larger American cities, giving urban workers additional lunchtime options and aspiring chefs a new means of delivering their fare besides having to open a restaurant. The trend has even spawned its own reality show, THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE on The Food Network.

We traveled to Merlindia (via Washington, DC) to check out one of the more popular food trucks (as evidenced by the long lines) offered by The Fojol Brothers. In this video segment, you will see how their use of theming — which engages employees and customers — transforms a service offering into a memorable experience. Enjoy!

Made in America: The Return Of Innovation

Made in America: The Return Of Innovation

If you find yourself wondering what’s happened to innovation and the ability for Americans to invent new products, you will want to watch this video tour of Tech Shop SF, a member-based place (Kinda like your high school woodshop… on steroids!) where people can bring their dreams to life by prototyping new product concepts.

Have you seen that little “square” that attaches to the iPhone and iPad for credit card transactions? It was invented at Tech Shop, and it is among hundreds of new ideas coming to the marketplace. Tech Shop is expanding quickly and is in discussions with a major big-box home improvement chain for possible national presence.

I was gratified to be co-honored with the Tech Shop CEO at last fall’s thinkAbout conference put on by the authors of the Experience Economy; Tech Shop received the EXPY award (Experience Stager of the Year), while my work was recognized with an EMA (Experience Management Award) for efforts to transform the customer experience in medical practices.

Innovation is indeed alive and well here in America!

Laser Cataract Surgery: the Next New Thing in Ophthalmology

Laser Cataract Surgery: the Next New Thing in Ophthalmology

Mainstream consumers’ experiences foster more rapid adoption across the spectrum of technological innovation, including what you have to offer as an eye surgeon.

Consumer trends, as well as ophthalmology’s own experience with elective procedures, strongly suggest that surgeons should get involved. The question is, when? Now is the right time to begin thinking and planning, as manufacturers are building their capacity to deliver the devices. Eventually, this technology will make its way into everyone’s community. There are still many questions, such as which laser platform is the best, how much will it cost, where will the surgery be performed, which patients qualify, and how much should patients be charged? This is an emerging field; answers will become clear in the coming months, and they will evolve as we learn more about how best to integrate this technology into the practice. The earliest customers will pave the way, and their experiences will help all interested surgeons plan accordingly.

Eyemaginations Testimonial

Eyemaginations Testimonial

Recently, Eyemaginations released a new product that I believe redefines how we influence patients’ behavior before and after office visits. 3D-Eye Home is part of a long-term trend of decentralizing patients’ medical experience by moving educational events/encounters from the doctor’s office to their homes….

The 3D-Eye Home platform addresses one of the key sticking points in medicine: the communication gap between doctors and patients that results in lower compliance. Practices do not need to use 3D-Eye Office to use 3DEye Home. Providing better communication at a lower cost is a key step to building demand for many of the new diagnostic and therapeutic tools available to the modern eye care practice.
